Joan Keaney-Bray
I am an Irish artist, originally from Leitrim and now based in London.
My recent work explores abstract and mixed-media pop-art interpretations of Irish writers and poets who have shaped our rich cultural heritage. I create compositions that celebrate our uniquely Irish relationship with language — the wit, lyricism and storytelling that define us.
In addition to the artistic side of life, I am a married working Mom. I have an academic background in Social Science and International Relations with a strong interest in the inequalities that shape our world. As such, I have worked and travelled extensively with Government Departments for International Development and Foreign Affairs, managing and advising on government, UN and Red Cross programmes across diverse countries including Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Gaza and Nigeria among others.
These experiences have profoundly shaped how I see the world and continue to inform my perspective as an artist. Through colour, texture, imagery and language, I believe art has the power to inspire reflection, spark conversation and connect us across cultures, backgrounds and shared human experience.
